Mayra graduated from Hunter College with a Masters of Science, and obtained her Bachelor of Arts from Fordham University. She was the former president of the Citizen and Police Community Council and a former member of the Westchester County Community That Cares (CTC) the city of Mount Vernon. Mayra started working at the American Civic Association in June 2009 as an Immigration Case Consultant. She is an Accredited Representative of the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Executive Director/CEO for the Organization, dedicated to creating a friendly and diverse welcoming environment for refugees and immigrants. In May 2017, Mayra was awarded the Liberty Bell Award by the Broome County Bar Association.
